As a Canadian eCommerce retailer, I want you to know that depending on what you order, the Trump administration’s tariff policies may affect your order.
Items certified as manufactured in North America, such as DIY Packraft kits, are exempt from tariffs (you will not have to pay a tax to the US government if you order one). This applies only to things called “kits” in the DIY Packraft shop (packraft kits, spray deck kits, thigh strap kits, etc.).
After the US Supreme Court’s recent decision that the “emergency” tariffs were illegal, the Trump administration replaced those tariffs with a different type of tariff set at 15% for stuff made in countries that don’t have a trade agreement with the USA. So, if you order something that DIY Packraft doesn’t manufacture in-house, like bulk fabric, bulk valves, or bulk zippers, then you will probably have to pay an extra 10-15% (10% for airtight zippers and top-up valves, which are made in Europe, 15% for other things).
UPS will collect the tax when they deliver your parcel.
Initial indications were that everything in a parcel would be taxed at the highest possible rate, so it made sense to order kits separately from other things, but that has changed. (If you order a packraft kit plus something else, the kit won’t be taxed.)
In this fast-changing tariff environment, I cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information above. If in doubt, check with US officials.
Tariffs imposed by the US government are the responsibility of the importer, and if you refuse to accept your order, I will charge a restocking fee.
I appreciate your understanding and continued support.
Sincerely,
Matt Pope
