Here in the north we’re deep in winter, so I haven’t had a chance to paddle the new 2-person DIY Packraft yet, but here are a few more pictures that show the new seat design (just one of them, because I’ve only made one so far). Hopefully I’ll have a chance to drive out to the coast one day soon so I can test this thing on the water. So far it works great in the snow…

Because this packraft is taller and wider than the one-person models, with 33 cm (13″) side tubes and a 40 cm (16″) inside width, a canoe-style seat that raises the paddler up higher is much more comfortable than a kayak-style seat. I’ve designed a simple inflatable box shape that is quite comfortable to sit on, and with the addition of an airtight zipper it doubles as a 50 liter dry bag. The seat height can be adjusted by changing the amount of air in the seat, and it doesn’t feel unstable when constrained by the packraft’s side tubes.

The rear paddler can either sit on a seat like this or sit on the packraft’s rear tube.
