Returning customers will notice that there are now more shipping options available during checkout. These prices are pulled directly from Canada Post’s website and are based on your delivery address and the combined weight of the items in your cart (you must enter your address before the shipping options will appear, but you don’t have to enter any credit card numbers and there is no obligation to place an order).

I have not added any markup to the shipping prices – what you see is what it costs, or as close as possible without actually packing and measuring/weighing the parcel.

For some of the options, estimated delivery dates are indicated. This is a nice feature that will give you a sense of how much faster your parcel will arrive if you pay more (often there is little or no benefit to paying more!). Please note that estimated delivery dates are just that – estimated. They aren’t guaranteed and absolutely do not apply to orders containing backordered (out of stock) items, even though estimated delivery dates may still be displayed. As usual, orders containing backordered products will ship as soon as the items are in stock.

If you can afford it, I recommend choosing a shipping service that includes tracking (especially if your parcel is destined for Germany!). DIY Packraft will not be held responsible for lost or returned packages that do not have tracking numbers!

The following shipping services do not include tracking:

  • Small Packet USA Air
  • Small Packet International Surface
  • Small Packet International Air
  • International Parcel Air
  • International Parcel Surface

For international shipments, “Surface” shipping services are the cheapest, but they can take 6-8 weeks (or more) and do not include tracking, so the likelihood of a lost parcel is increased… avoid them if you can.

For overseas shipments, 2 kg is still the maximum weight for the cheaper airmail shipping services, so avoid ordering heavy items if you’re trying to minimize shipping costs.

To celebrate this new feature, I’ve created a coupon code for free shipping that can be applied to orders over $500 USD (or the equivalent in other currencies), so group your order with some friends and enter “freeshipping500” during checkout to save some money. (Note that this code isn’t applicable to orders containing raw fabric – it’s just too heavy to ship overseas.) This may be a limited time offer and it could be cancelled at any time… we’ll see how it goes. It’s also not retroactive, and must be applied during checkout.
