Chilko kits are now available with a spray deck and spray skirt (as opposed to the self-bailing model).
If you’re familiar with the older DIY Packraft spray decks, the Chilko deck is a new design that’s simpler in some ways. If you’re interested in seeing how it goes together, check out the assembly video below (further details here).
If there’s demand, I could also offer this style of deck for the other packraft models too, so let me know if that’s something you want. I didn’t design the decks for the other DIY Packraft models with the TPU facing down because I thought the upper fabric would soak up water, but Muriel and Alex who pioneered this new orientation assure me it’s not an issue – plus, it makes for a cleaner looking deck when you add a zipper to make it removable.
If you’re wondering why anyone would want a removable spray deck on a packraft that’s designed for whitewater, sometimes people just want to get out on a lake with a dog or a kid, and having a removable deck makes that an option.
