Hello!
As far as I can tell, the DIY kits being sold aren’t baffled, which is one of the key differences to me between a kids toy I can carry around and a packraft — I don’t want to be in the middle of a lake or river with a hole compromising the whole boat! Are there instructions to baffle if I want to, or am I wrong in my assumption that…[Read more]

Thanks, lots of people were asking, so I figured a review was a good way to answer most of the questions once rather than dozens of times.

I’m not aware of anyone who has tried to make that type of raft using these DIY methods, but in principle it should work. I’m not sure where you’d find appropriate fabrics though… It looks like the Paddlecat is made from 1680D fabric, which is much heavier than any I sell.

Did anyone ever find a heavier material for North American customers? I noticed a comment where Matt said heavier material would be available soon but I don’t see anything in the shop yet.
I am interested in materials upto and maybe over 1000 denier. Cordura or ballistic or vectran or options would be great. Something heavy and two sided would be…[Read more]

Has anyone ever seen larger boats built from these materials … that can handle real whitewater? I am interested in building a 11′ x 5′ raft or frameless paddlecat with 20″ tubes.
The fact nobody has done it, leads me to believe I might be unaware of structural or other design limitations.
I’m not really concerned about weight. I am more…[Read more]

Proud and excited to say I finally finished my DIY packraft. It’s been an awesome project to take on this summer, as I’ve been working an internship in a different city and had time in the afternoons to make progress. I’ll share a couple of first pictures I took and give a bit of a review of the process/share some things I found helpf…[Read more]

A few keen-eyed DIY packrafters have noticed that the newer Telkwa and Skeena kits have lower capacity ratings than the V3, in spite of being longer and having more air volume in the tubes. This is a result of a […]

I’m still working on my first project, so don’t take this as advice, just ideas. The simplest thing to do would be to have the TPU side inside and just seal the top and bottom together around the inner and outer of the donut – but that would give you an obvious seam sticking out when inflated, and the pressure would be trying to pull the seams…[Read more]

It’s not exactly a donut, but start by checking out the link in this post: https://www.diypackraft.com/2017/09/08/lightweight-fishing-float-tube/
Cheers!

Hi,
I like to take an inflatable donut with me backpacking. In early season I can snowtube, and in later season I can float on lakes.
It seems easy to make with the DIY packraft fabric. Just two washer shaped pieces of fabric inflate into tubes.
Will anyone help me think through a construction method? How do I seal those two pieces together, I…[Read more]

Since the new Ultralight and Telkwa DIY Packraft kits were released, several people have asked for a similar packraft kit made from standard weight fabrics without a wrap-around floor. Tonight I inflated this new […]
