As far as I can see, neither of those looks bad enough to risk removal and rewelding. I would just coat them with Aquaseal and not worry about it, because everything else looks great. For the sealant on the inside, I would proceed as normal, just making sure to plug any obvious routes where air could escape. Cheers!

I ironed a fold into a seam strip while building 2R on an Atlin. Then, on the outside of the boat, I ironed a bit of the seam strip under the floor fabric (see pictures). I figured it was alright and applied sealant to the inside, but it’s been bothering me to at least attempt a fix while I have the opportunity (just started tube 1). Should I go…[Read more]

Excellent – in my opinion, that’s the best way to do it – a little at a time, so you don’t get sick of it. Cheers ๐

Thanks for a fast reply Matt, that cheered me up! ๐ I’m continuing little by little, sneaking out to the garage inbetween all other stuff that is calling on my attention during spingtime.

First splash with one of the new DIYPackrafts I made this winter!
I couldn’t be happier. It handles just like an old creek boat kayak I had years ago but lighter, is much more controllable than my canoe and is going to see a TON of time on the water throughout Canada. Thanks again for making these kits Matt!

Hi Anders – don’t worry! It’s not necessary to go back and change anything – just carry on. Those inside reinforcements are only for extra strength (the Skeena and other packraft models don’t have them, and that has never caused a problem). If you are really concerned, you could add a wider reinforcing strip that bridges across the sealant, but…[Read more]

Hi, Iยดm working on a Telkwa and had started to build up some self confidence about the heat sealing process, but then…
I had joined the first two tube parts (3R and 2R) and happily attached seam seal onto the inside of the seam before going to bed.
Yesterday when I continued the work I was looking for the video on my phone but notised that I…[Read more]
