What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

I have no desire to collect or share any personal information beyond the minimum required to make this website function properly and to process orders received through the Shop. – Matt (DIY Packraft owner and website administrator)

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data entered in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it (so your profile picture can be displayed). The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture (if you have uploaded one) is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you have previously created an account with this website (e.g. to make a purchase through the Shop), your full name may be displayed beside your comment. This is a bug. Edit your user profile to remove your name, or if you are unable to do this, please contact me.

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Do not upload images of identifiable people without their written permission.

Do not upload images of minors without written permission from their legal guardians.

Contact forms

When you submit data through a contact form (such as your name and email address), it may be stored indefinitely, locally and/or in secure remote servers, until you ask for it to be deleted. These data will not be used for marketing.

Cookies

Cookies must be enabled in your browser to make a purchase through our online shop. Cookies are used to keep track of what items you have added to your Cart as you navigate between pages to complete your purchase. You can delete these cookies from your browser and disable cookies after you complete your purchase.

Embedded content from other websites

Pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos hosted by YouTube and Vimeo, images hosted elsewhere, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves as if you have visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to help us understand how users interact with our website and what content they find valuable. This code tracks how users arrive at the site, which pages they visit, how long they spend on each page, and how they leave the website. All such data are anonymized by Google and we cannot identify individual users. For more information, check Google Analytics’ privacy policy.

Who we share your data with

When you make a purchase through our online shop, your credit card information is transmitted directly to Stripe; we do not receive or store any credit card information that could be used to make a purchase.

When you purchase physical goods through our online shop, your name, address, and telephone number will be transmitted to a postal service or courier in order to create a shipping label for your parcel. This physical label will then be visible to postal workers, customs agents, etc., as your parcel is transported. For international shipments, it is legally required that the shipping label include information about the contents of the parcel and its monetary value.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. If you want your comment deleted, along with the associated metadata, please contact us.

For users that register on our website, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their own personal information at any time (except they cannot edit their username). The website administrator can also see, edit, and delete that information – typically this is only done after a request from the user. User profiles will be retained indefinitely, and normally we only delete users who post spam content or abuse the website in some other way (but we reserve the right to delete user profiles for any reason at any time without warning).

If you submit data through a contact form or order form, it will be retained indefinitely unless you ask for it to be deleted.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for legal purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

When you make a purchase through our online shop, your credit card information is transmitted directly to Stripe; we do not receive or store credit card information that could be used to make a purchase.

Your contact information

When you purchase physical goods through our online shop, your name, address, and telephone number will be transmitted to a postal service or courier to create a pre-paid shipping label for your parcel.

We will not otherwise trade, sell, or distribute your contact information unless we are compelled to do so by a court order.

We will not use your telephone number, except in the context of your shipping label as described above. We recommend that you supply your actual phone number in case your post office or customs office needs to contact you about your shipment.

How we protect your data

Your contact information and data are stored in secure offsite servers. Password-protected digital backups may be stored locally. Physical copies of invoices and shipping labels may be stored locally under lock and key.

We do not receive or store any credit card data, aside from the type of card you used to make your purchase.
