Dear Valued Customer,

As a Canadian eCommerce retailer, I want you to know that the recent US tariffs may affect your order.

For orders placed after October 1, 2025, all DIY Packraft kits should be exempt from tariffs, meaning you won’t have to pay any taxes when you receive your parcel – but only if there is nothing else in the parcel besides things I call “kits”. Only things labelled “kit” in the DIY Packraft shop (packraft kits, spray deck kits, thigh strap kits, heat sealing form kits, etc.) will come with a USMCA Certificate of Origin and be exempt from tariffs.

Other items such as bulk fabric, valves, zippers, and so on will be taxed by the US government at various rates (usually 10-20%).

This is not DIY Packraft’s policy, it’s an “emergency” order from the desk of President Trump. Federal courts in the US have repeatedly judged the order illegal, but the tariffs remain in place while the Supreme Court considers the case.

Import duties, taxes, and tariffs imposed by the US government are the responsibility of the importer, and must be paid before the item enters the USA. Typically, the fees are first paid by UPS, who will then contact you to recoup them. If you refuse to pay them, your order will be returned to me and I will be charged for shipping both ways, plus a processing fee, plus the tariff (UPS doesn’t get a tariff refund from the US government if the item is returned). If that happens, I will be forced to deduct a restocking fee from your refund in order to cover those costs.

In this fast-changing tariff environment, I cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information above, so if in doubt, check with US Customs for specific details.

I appreciate your understanding and continued support.

Sincerely,

Matt Pope
