Today, Canada Post received notice from the postal workers’ union that they will go on strike Friday, May 23, unless they can reach an agreement before then. No mail or parcels will be delivered if the union goes on strike. The previous strike lasted five weeks before the government ordered the strikers back to work for a five-month period, which ends this week.

Choose FedEx or Purolator as your shipping option if you want to avoid a potentially long shipping delay.

I will do my best to ensure previously-placed orders are either delivered or out of Canada before Friday, but I can’t make any guarantees on the post office’s behalf.

This is obviously extremely frustrating for those of us who rely on Canada Post to do business. If you’d like to read a summary of the Industrial Inquiry Commission’s analysis of Canada Post’s problems, it’s available here. It makes it pretty clear who’s to blame for this ridiculous mess.
