Bad news first:
Remember when there was that Customs delay last month? Well that was the export Customs office. Now the fabric shipment is in Canada, and here we have our very own Customs officers and apparently […]-
Hi Brian – thanks for the tip. I’ve been in touch with the broker and freight forwarder on an almost daily basis and they both confirm it’s Customs holding it up, but yeah, I’ve had shippers, brokers, and forwarders screw things up in the past. I’ve learned not to sit back and assume everyone is doing their job perfectly all the time… unfortunately.

500den TPU Cordura from extremtextil
FYI: I have just made a test weld on this with a strip of Matt’s camo fabric, using the hot air gun, and can report that the result is perfect. The weld is very strong, and with no sign at all of heat damage to the fabric it can fairly be assumed to be the ’66’ variant. The TPU coating is thick and the cordura…[Read more]

Matt (Admin) replied to the topic Help & Questions re: DIY Packraft Construction in the forum DIY Packrafts 7 years, 11 months ago
Hi John,
The heat-sealed bonds are actually stronger than the fabric itself (you can see this demonstrated in the fabric comparison video), so reinforcing the seams by sewing or adding wider strips over them would not increase the durability of the packraft overall unless you reinforce the tube fabric as well. You could do this by adding an extra…[Read more]

so I was wondering if I buy a large packraft and then want to get extra strips to heat seal on the seams would this actually increase the seam strength ofr do you think that would be pointless?

Very excited to put together my first packraft. I’m using a thermorest neo air xlite doubled over as a seat, floor and backrest. It’s very comfy, in fact far comfortable than the seat in my Alpacka. It also as some stiffness which improves handling. The sleeping pad wedges in pretty well, but I guess it could potentially come out in major…[Read more]
