Weight-weenie idea: I cut some fabric out of the seat baffles. I expect these would be plenty strong if made out the 115 GSM fabric?

Hi Cate – don’t worry! This is a very minor mistake and easy to fix.
There are multiple ways you could fix it, but if only the first side of the baffle is attached to the seat, the easiest thing to do is to cut off half of the baffle, and then cut a rectangle of scrap fabric 2-3 centimeters (~1 inch) wider than the part you cut off, and then weld…[Read more]

I just started my Telkwa raft build and already made a big mistake. I want to know if I can continue on or if I need to order another seat.
My first weld on an A baffle and I faced the wrong direction when welding the baffle. The flap is facing away from the valve.
Can I do the other baffles correctly and still make this work? Or do I have…[Read more]

Completed Telkwa Report
Between Matt’s detailed instructions and scouring the forums I was able to find all of the answers to my build questions. Lots of great information in the forums from other builders thanks!
Including seat, backrest, and tie downs I was 40 hours build time.

I spent extra time carefully fitting and heat sealing where t…[Read more]

Matt (Admin) replied to the topic Any ideas for a stiffer spray deck? in the forum DIY Packrafts 5 years, 1 month ago
I noticed you didn’t order a spray skirt with your deck, so I’m guessing you’re using a different skirt, which might be a different shape, so trying to force it on may cause problems. If it’s a skirt designed for use on a kayak with a fiberglass or stiff plastic coaming, that will have a much tighter bungee in it than the one I supply with the DIY…[Read more]

Hello all!
I’m just getting back from my boat’s maiden voyage on the water and it was awesome! The only issue is my spray skirt is not staying on the spray deck. The plastic tubing is too soft, and it’s collapsing inward under the tension of my spray skirt. The tubing also became kinked and no longer holds the right shape.
Does anyone have ideas…[Read more]

Found all the sources of my leaks! Found a number of microscopic leaks in the TPU where iron had touched it and/or near seams. Technique i found to find them was painting on undiluted car wash. Undiluted meant it was nice and thick and microscopic bubbles showed up that I just did not see with the diluted car wash methods. Painting on with…[Read more]

Matt (Admin) replied to the topic What if the strip cant be welded? Halt in my packraft projekt. in the forum DIY Packrafts 5 years, 1 month ago
The bond made with Aquasure is much weaker than welded TPU, but in this case you are not relying on the Aquasure for a structural bond, only to make it airtight where the TPU is partly damaged. I would not use Aquasure between the seam strip and the tube fabric – even damaged TPU will be stronger, so simply reheat and reposition the seam strip,…[Read more]

Thanks for your calming answer Matt, I might even get down from the ladder later on to night and give it a try. 🙂 Maby I´ll try to do it using the hot air-welder I bought but havn´t been trying much yet.
One question though, would you say that a bond made with Aquasure is somewhat to be compared with the TPU-bond, or is it much weaker?
