This is just a heads up that tomorrow will be my last trip to the post office before I leave for my month-long packrafting trip, so today is your last opportunity to purchase a fabric sample pack, valve, etc. […]

Trial float of my skeena with Colorado air.
And a trial river run on the Animas tubing through Durango.
Not your typical “Bikeraft” setup, but love that I can take a boat along on a motorcycle!
This photo also shows one of the new “Covid-19” color schemes. I think the blue seam strips look pretty good. Need to work on installing a…[Read more]

Hi there,
I’ve been practicing heat sealing on scraps (I’m a little OCD, I’m sorry.) And I’m not sure if I’m doing a really great job or a really terrible job haha. I’ve come across a few things I haven’t seen mentioned in your videos so I hoped to check with you before I start on my Skeena!
I feel pretty good about my tube-to-tube fabric…[Read more]

There’s no step in the DIY Packraft kits where that’s required, but in theory you could use a hot air welder.

So when welding the floor material which is double coated, how can we melt it to itself if we cannot weld tpu coated sides of fabric?

It took me 5:30 to inflate the boat with the small thermarest sack. I use the dump valve to start and when it starts to fill up I switch to the one-way valve. 10 breaths to finish the job.

Thanks for showing us, Christian! Your packrafts look great and it is good to know about the hot air soldering station – your seams look excellent!

Couple of weeks ago I finished my two packrafts! Telkwa and 2-Person.
It was awesome to build these. I really enjoyed it! The Telkwa was the first and it took me about 3 weeks. I was not very fast, but was afraid of doing any mistakes. I did some, but nothing major. Had some very minor leaks at the zipper.
The second (2-Person) took me…[Read more]

Thanks for the response. That totally makes sense. It was the fact that the heavier fabric is coated on both sides that I’d missed. I was able to build confidence by watching the videos, but found myself pausing the videos at various points to check if the floor was shiny side up or down. My Alpacka has the floor shiny side up, which was also…[Read more]

I’ve figured out a lightweight solution for inflating my Ultralight boat with has the red PVC valves. I use my new-style winglock valve Thermarest inflation bag. A short peice of 0.875″ OD vinyl tubing from the hardware store connects perfectly into the Thermarest bag and then needs a few wraps of tape on the other end to fit the packraft…[Read more]

Excellent, that’s super helpful! I had the same question when I just started my build yesterday. I just went with what was shown in the videos and figured it must be working. I did notice that if you touch the iron to either side of the black floor fabric it looked like it was melting, whereas it only did that to one side of the colored fa…[Read more]
