Maiden voyage of a recently completed stock-length Voyageur. This is my second packraft, first was a V2 which works very well and gets a lot of use. This one had way fewer leaks! Cold day and cold water made it tough to keep it full of air, but it worked great. As Derek has mentioned in earlier posts, the Big Agnes Air Core fits per…[Read more]

If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you know that I’m constantly working to improve the DIY Packraft designs, instructions, and materials.
Today I’m excited to introduce a new fabric that has been […]

I hesitate to recommend a DIY Packraft for unknown whitewater conditions… so much depends on the conditions and the paddlers’ skill. I assume the race organizers wouldn’t send you into unsafe conditions though, so it’s probably not a bad option. It would be a lot of work to make something you’re not passionate about though, so it might make more…[Read more]

I have tried many adhesives and do not recommend any of them, but two that other people have recommended (I have not used them because they’re not available where I live) are HH-66 and Stabond. They will stick to the fabric, but I don’t know if they’ll stick to a magnet. You may have better luck heat sealing a piece of fabric over the magnet to…[Read more]

Hello,
I had a quick question in regards to attaching something to my packraft. I want to attach a flexible, magnetic strip to the top of the tube (think of a thin fridge magnet in terms of thickness and flexibility) so on flat water I can set my metal cup on in and it will stay put.
What kind of glue or adhesive should I use to attach something…[Read more]

Agreed! Unfortunately, the only outfitter renting double pack-rafts–that I can find, anywhere in NA–is sold out for the race (Backcountry Packrafts).
This leaves me renting a couple singles–a few of us have our own singles–or looking for an affordable way to get a double–unfortunately, not much re-sale action for doubles on the packraft FB groups…[Read more]

In your situation I would rent packrafts for the event – much less stress and more time for training.

I’m new to pack-rafting so forgive me for my ignorance. I’m in an upcoming adventure race (Expedition Oregon) where we have been told that there will be about 70 miles of swift water pack rafting/some bike packing going up to Class II/III. By the nature of the event, we aren’t told exactly what we will be running so the exact ri…[Read more]
