<p style=”text-align: left;”>Thanks – I take your point about the difficulty in getting an airtight seal. I have made air bladders out of TPU film (rather than TPU coated nylon). The material is stretchy and kind of clings to itself, so it wasn’t difficult to create an airtight seal. Maybe I’ll try and bond a tube of this stuff to the TPU coating…[Read more]

I made an air pillow once with a roll top, thinking that a dozen rolls ought to keep air in. It stayed up for a couple of hours but was always flat in the morning.
Thermarest have a new ‘speedvalve’ on one model Neoair. This looks like a roll top about 20cm wide. Towards the end of the video they say ‘tuck the black inner valve all the way…[Read more]

I was thinking of something along the same lines, but all the roll-top drybags I’ve owned aren’t airtight – they keep water out, but if you sit on them they slowly deflate – so I was thinking of a closure more like the slide-on clips found on hydration bags (Camelback, etc.). I don’t know how to make one of those though, and it would have to be…[Read more]

Hi
just an idea I thought I’d share to see if anyone had tried this out….
instead of fitting an airtight zipper, I was thinking of installing an opening either on the side or a seam of the packraft, with a tube of fabric (basically two rectangles sealed to each other on two opposite sides to form a tube, then seal one open end of the tube to…[Read more]

Hi,
I’m not sure I post my answer in the good place.
I’m very glad with your new pattern: Voyageur 2-Person DIY Packraft Plans! And I’m impatient to (modify and) build it.
As the kit doesn’t exist yet, could you indicate how many meters of fabric this pattern needs? (without any modifications / with a 20cm more in length, 40, 60, 80, 100… /…[Read more]

Hi Josh,
Sure, I’ll try to get that done today. You can see a couple pictures of it in a packraft here, but I’ll take some pictures of just the seat as well.
Cheers,
Matt

The fabric shipment was finally released from Customs this morning after weeks of radio silence. Randomly or otherwise, they took a special interest in this particular shipment and removed it to an off-site […]

Sorry to hear about you having to postpone your trip, but thanks for the update! I hope the news relieves some stress and maybe even a few good things start coming your way!

Thanks! I hope so too 😀

Oh what a bummer!! This must be why I haven’t received the order I placed on June 16th. I was really hoping to have this by tomorrow as a suprise for my husbands birthday. He has wanted one for soo long! Will I get a notification when it does ship?
-
Hi Katelyn – yep, I’m catching up on orders now (in the order they were received) – yours should ship in the next day or so. Please watch for a shipping confirmation email. Thanks for your patience!

Thanks for the heads up! I appreciate it!

Matt,
I saw that you have a new seat kit posted in the shop. Any chance you could post a picture of what the new finished seat looks like compared with the old one? I’m trying to decide which to make now.
Thanks -

Thanks for the info. I guess it’s best to wait…
In the meantime, I picked up a Klymit LWD for dirt cheap on Amazon. It didn’t do too bad on it’s maiden voyage on a backcountry lake.

Check posts 2248, 2771, and 2901 for fabrics from Seattle and Rockywoods. There are many other posts here from people who have tried other fabrics and concluded that it was a mistake. Currently Matt is the only supplier offering the correct fabric to the public. I speak as someone who bought the wrong stuff in the past and will not again -…[Read more]

Does anyone have more info on the fabrics available from Seattle Fabrics? Considering Matt’s fabric importing situation and the fact that I’m in the greater Seattle area, it might be in my best interest to get fabric there. Since I have zero experience in raft building, I don’t know the differences and potential problems with Seattle fabrics’…[Read more]
