FYI: I have just made a test weld on this with a strip of Matt’s camo fabric, using the hot air gun, and can report that the result is perfect. Hi John,
The heat-sealed bonds are actually stronger than the fabric itself (you can see this demonstrated in the fabric comparison video), so reinforcing the seams by sewing or adding wider strips over them would not increase the durability of the packraft overall unless you reinforce the tube fabric as well. so I was wondering if I buy a large packraft and then want to get extra strips to heat seal on the seams would this actually increase the seam strength ofr do you think that would be pointless?

Very excited to put together my first packraft. I’m using a thermorest neo air xlite doubled over as a seat, floor and backrest. It’s very comfy, in fact far comfortable than the seat in my Alpacka. Nope, they’re different – TPU is heat sealable, while PU is not. You can read more about them on the Fabrics page. Cheers!
