Like Matt said, I’ve had good luck cleaning and relubricating the zipper to obtain an airtight seal again.

Man, I LOVE my big boss oversized DIYpackraft. My son and I landed our first king salmon from the packraft today. I know you discontinued the Voyageur, but I’d love to have the option to buy plans for one in the future, when this one wears out. Such a great utility packraft.

The “leather iron” from http://www.aliexpress.com is my preferred iron for assembling DIY Packraft kits. It’s hot enough, it maintains a consistent temperature, it’s robustly built, it’s the right width for heat sealing […]

Is there some benefit to replacing the plug as opposed to using an adaptor?
-
You can probably save a few dollars by buying a new plug instead of an adapter, but other than that, there’s no benefit. When I made the video the only adapter I could find was about $30, which seemed excessive, but since then I’ve seen them as low as $8, which makes that option more attractive.

If you have a cargofly you could simply use one or more beach balls and put it inside before inflating it. It will keep it afloat and you have something to play with when waiting for rescue 🙂

Hi every body,
First, a very big thank you Matt for making this available!
I completed my Ultralite packraft and also assemble a sub-2kg kit with all that is needed to go (including an inflatable vest). I’m planing on doing Run-raft an Para-raft (paragliding) with it! Very exited about the new possibilities of this kit!A few contribution: I…[Read more]

I’m a beginner (just practicing welds at this point) so take this all for what it’s worth (nothing) but I picked up the Aviation Art sealing iron from Stewart Systems. Looks like they are selling it for use on full size aircraft, so a bit more money than a model aircraft iron, but still pretty reasonable to me. I think it’s basically a U.S.…[Read more]

Looks like the HH-66 is easy to get hold of this side of the Atlantic, one more question what is the diameter of the inflated Telkwa at the seam closest to the middle of the long side?

Welcome! I haven’t done any high pressure testing, but yeah, I think it will depend on the factors you mentioned plus the design of the inflatable object and how the forces are distributed along the welds. Cheers!

Hello,
I am not a bot.
I am interested in this fabrication technique for boats other than packrafts.
I poked around the site looking for the max psi this technique can support but the closest I found was the inflation bag which suggests low pressure.
I guess it depends on 1 or 2 sided TPU and the seam overlap.
Can folks point me to any a…[Read more]

You could try that – I’ve heard that it works but I haven’t tried it myself.

If you put your iron on one side, the TPU will stick to the iron. and the bottom layer will stick to the ground. Is the solution just parchment paper on both sides?
