Marcin, Yes, packraft inflation is limited to lung pressure, at or less than one psi. In contrast, I believe a full size NRS 18′ heavy duty raft is inflated to 2.5 psi, much higher pressure than any packraft should be inflated.
It is an interesting question, and I have just acquired a low pressure gauge to fit my NRS barrel pump so I can pressure…[Read more]

Here’s a video showing how I make tie-downs for the outside of the packraft. Written instructions with downloadable patterns are posted here.
The video shows how I attach them to an existing packraft – if […]

Hi.
Maybe it’s stupid question (because everybody knows answer), but I have to ask. What is pressure inside packraft chamber?I found only information about mouth inflation – does it mean that internal pressur not exceed 40-45mbar (0,6 psi)?

- I estimate the air volume to ca 5-6 liters, so around 50-60N boyancy. The straps are sewn on to a piece of 1000D tpu, sandwiched between the 210D main tpu fabric.
I am on holiday now, but I can find the plans when I come home.

Hi
I have two qustions, maybe three:
– What is buyonancy of that vest? Did you test is?
– How straps attached? Glues or sewed?
– Have you got any drawing? Plans?
Right now I try to make something similar. Have to reduce places in rucksack, and two standard PFD take about 10 liters of volume.

Haha – sounds like fun!
Thanks for the tip about the 3M 5200 – I picked some up and I’m testing it now. I couldn’t find the quick-cure version locally, so it’ll be a few days before I can really pull on it. It seems like it might be a good product for coating the inside of the seams during construction to prevent those annoying pinhole leaks that…[Read more]

Looks great, Steven!
I have so many half-finished projects, I know what that’s like, so good for you for plugging away at it and getting it done. Thanks for posting!

Well, 1 yr later (I know I’m slow!) I had my v2 out on the water today for it’s maiden voyage….wow and whew. All the hard work paid off when I got on the water and realized this thing is legit. My friend has an Alpacka I had been drooling over for a few years and he was pretty impressed with the look and how it paddled through the water.
It was…[Read more]

Paddles fine, and outside of my craftsmanship, I’m totally happy with it. I didn’t foresee how difficult the inside tube seam would be when I made the floor length 16″ longer and had difficulty with those seams being airtight. So….3M 5200 to the rescue. Works fine now.
I sit with my knees slightly bent and feel I can navigate easy rivers fi…[Read more]

Got the “packship” down the Mendenhall and Herbert Rivers with me, wife, and 7 year old. Working well. I put 3M 5200 on all the seams instead of Aquaseal because I had some minor leaks and for whatever reason, nobody will ship the big 8oz bottle of Aquaseal to AK (hazmat?). It’s ugly, but I could care less, it works great.

Hi all,
Finished my V2 from plans and finally got around to testing it in the river. The raft is great and exceeded my expectations for handling etc. The material I sourced looks very much like an imitator of Mat’s so I plan on getting some “DIY packraft” decals done.
My biggest problem was the end join on the seams, the last one, nearest the…[Read more]

If you don’t feel like spending a bunch of time working on seats and an inflatable floor, the Exped Air Pillow ($45) (XL) and Big Agnes Air Core Ultra ($79) fit perfectly into the Voyageur build if you make the Voyageur a little bigger. Either way, sleeping pads are dual purpose, don’t take any time to build, and are pretty affordable.
The Big…[Read more]
