Hey Eliot,
thanks a ton for the insights and thanks to Matt for putting up the documentation.

I finished my first V3 on the weekend – all the outfitting is yet to come. I was so eager to try it out that I even forgot to pull off all of the masking tape.

Cheesy picture paddeling it on the Danube:

Hey Thomas!
Yep, he wood-form is described in the V3 instructions.
You’ll find it there at step 4.2 (and never want to miss it from then on :-)) -

Hello Mark,
Getting my V3 Packraft on Thursday. It might be in the V3 instructions but I haven’t seen it referenced anywhere else (maybe just missing it). What “Wood Form” are you referring to? You say it’s key, I’d like to not mess this up! 🙂

Also would like an answer to this! The voyageur sounds like (and looks like from pictures) two people couldn’t sit comfortable in it as it stands.
I also had a question (maybe even you could answer joe). Buying extra material to lengthen this. If I want to lengthen it by 3 feet, would I then need 6 ft of the 210D material that’s sold, or is…[Read more]

Hi! I am not a robot, but I am a forum lurker, so I probably will not be posting much.
This packraft looks awesome, and I hope to build one when I finish some of my other projects.

Hello all,
Very excited to come across this site. I’m planning on buying the Voyageur 2 person kit but first wanted to ask Matt or any others with experience a few questions about sizing.
Right now I’d like to fit me, (5’10” tall), my wife (5’4″) and our 2 year old. But this fall there’ll be another new addition to the family, which means next…[Read more]

I second Mark’s opinion. It’s safe to open the top cover of the Boston valve on the water because of the one-way valve inside, and you can top up through that. Bruce from Fairbanks carries a ~1 meter length of 7/8″ OD silicone tubing to plug into the Boston valve so he doesn’t have to twist around to get his mouth on it, which is a good idea. I…[Read more]

I’m interested to see your spray deck when it’s completed. I’d really like one on mine, but I don’t want to commit to the more permanent whitewater style spray deck since I will often just be paddling around flat lakes fishing with my children…
I’d be fine with some sort of removeable cruiser deck, but I’m not sure what the best way will be to…[Read more]

I can’t speak from much experience since I just finished my raft, but I’d say that it’s not necessary. If I was building a second raft, I’d probably leave it off for now and decide later.
That said, I did mount mine already and I extended it with some silicone hose so it can be used from the normal seating position. But if you aren’t going to…[Read more]

I couldn’t find the right type of attachment loops for hooking the backband shock cord to the plate anchors… so I made some. Used some scrap 8AWG copper wire and a $13 wire bending tool from Lee Valley Tools. The nice thing about copper is it doesn’t rust, its malleable, and it’s easily solderable. I wouldn’t use it for some heavier duty…[Read more]

More pictures of the refinements I’ve added over the past couple days…
Finished grab lines on the stern, added thigh straps and a backband:

The thigh straps and back band are simply some shoulder straps that came with my MEC duffel bags over the years:

Had to name it of course…
I’d like to introduc you to the Wavefaring…[Read more]

Hey guys!
A question for those of you who packraft frequently:
I was wondering: is the Top-Up-Valve really necessary? I see a lot of comercially available packrafts not having one – others do though.
Is it something you use regurlarly and would you recommend to install them?
Are there any known problems with them “sticking out” so heavily?
Do…[Read more] -
