I don’t know what fabric you’re using, but assuming you’ve tested the welds and you’re satisfied they’re strong, then if you’re careful to avoid leaving any gap where the two pieces meet then it should work out fine. You can’t heat seal a fabric patch over Seam Grip though (or to the inside of the tube fabric, for that matter); instead, I would…[Read more]

About to do the rear centre seam and my seam strips don’t seem long enough (not the ones with the kit – I’m using a different colour fabric sourced elsewhere). Wondering if I could use two with them butted up to each other and a backing piece of fabric on the inside over the Seamgrip to help support? Or would this be a weak point likely to fai…[Read more]

Finally getting around to posting some shots of my first Telkwa build this summer! Matt’s instructions really are unbelievably good. It took me about 60 hours because I am nothing if not a little obsessive, but less quality guidance would have had me crying instead of wrapping this up with a finished boat that I couldn’t be more stoked on! The…[Read more]

Looks good from here (see the “note” on the Heat Sealing page about sealing different fabrics together).
It’s nylon.

Hi All,
I’m working on an inflatable project that requires heavier fabric, like 420D or 840D. I’ve been working directly with fabric suppliers since bulk fabric isn’t for sale on here right now. The samples are welding well. Before I pull the trigger on an order, I figured I’d post here to see if anyone else is looking for bulk heavy fabric. The…[Read more]

How to Modify Your OrderI am very grateful for the number of people who placed orders immediately after I announced the new fabric shipment had arrived, and now I am working […]

I can sell a kit without the fabric being scored, but I do not have any Ultralight fabric in stock at this time.

I will send you an email. In case anyone else wants to do this, here is a link to purchase the zipper separately: https://www.diypackraft.com/shop/merchandise/zipper-merchandise/tizip-superseal-50-cm-airtight-zipper/

Excellent work, and thanks for the update!

UL finished. The centre seam weld at the stern was not up to the quality of the others, so I decided to use some Seam Grip there, but otherwise I avoided it altogether. Happy to report that it is holding pressure. No leaks.

Sorry for the delay in replying. To answer your question, yes I did seal the inside of the seams with the Seam Grip. Now that I’ve just finished another boat (UL), I believe I made two mistakes on the Skeena: not consistent with my linger time when welding, not using a good enough bowl/jig to shape the seams at either end. Lessons learnt. Not had…[Read more]

At long last! The Skeena, Telkwa, and 2-Person packraft kits are now available in all colors and sizes, and spray decks and spray skirts are also available. (Bulk fabric sales and Ultralight packraft kits will […]

Thanks for the good news regarding hit availability. Bummer though about the UL fabric. Very interested in purchasing a UL should those kits ever become available again.
-
Hi Matt. It says the Telkwa spray deck and skirt are on backorder in the shop pages. I put an order in anyway.
-
Yeah, the decks and skirts have been more popular than I expected so I need more of the non-fabric components, but that shouldn’t take too long.
-
Hey there, I just placed an order due to arrive early May-ish. Do you think spray decks/skirts will be available by then to add onto my order? Thank you Matt!
-
Great! Yes, the spray deck components just arrived 20 minutes ago 🙂

Thanks for the notification. Ordered a Skeena within minutes of receiving it, and a friend ordered a Telkwa afew hours later. Curious how many orders you received on day 1 to maybe have an idea on when they might ship. Ready to build this :-).

I haven’t experimented with skegs, but there’s some general advice in the last section of this page: https://www.diypackraft.com/faq/tracking-or-directional-stability/

Matt (Admin) replied to the topic Foot Rest? in the forum DIY Packrafts 5 years, 2 months ago
I haven’t made one, but the easiest way would be to fold a circle or rectangle of fabric in half and seal the edges together. Add a top-up valve for inflation/deflation, and add at least one attachment point by sandwiching some floor material into the edge as in this seat: https://www.diypackraft.com/construction/how-to/seat-bottom-assembly-late-2020/

I haven’t been able to find any previous threads about foot rests. We sized up our Skeenas so we have a bit of extra length to use them with BikeRafting. This means we have some extra room between our feet and the inside front of the raft. I expect we sometimes may not have gear with us and am thinking about using some of the extra material to m…[Read more]

Closing the loop here, I got some of the SeamGrip +WP and it seems to work much better. It also has a stronger smell. I had kind of wondered about the +SIL version because it didn’t have much smell and I had seen references to SeamGrip being strong smelling. Thought maybe I just wasn’t that sensitive to it.
