Use this free download to make an inflatable seat for your packraft to protect your tailbone from rocks and raise your hips for a more comfortable paddling position.

This basic design can easily be modified to create a larger, smaller, thicker, or thinner seat – or even a camping mattress or full inflatable floor for your packraft!

Description

Note: This is the older version of the DIY Packraft seat. The newer seat is thicker and has fewer baffles, making it easier to construct.

After “purchasing” this digital plan, you can download it for free.

1 m of heat sealable fabric is sufficient to make this seat, with some left over to make a back rest as well.

With a back rest, this would be a very comfortable and lightweight camping chair, and the design could easily be modified to create a full-length inflatable packraft floor/camping mattress.

There are two options available for the free download: full size plans, and a version that is scaled down to fit on a single page. Since the dimensions are given and there are no curved lines, drawing the shapes onto your fabric may be easier than printing the full size plans onto multiple sheets of paper, taping them together and then tracing the shapes onto your fabric. Feel free to download both versions and choose whichever method you prefer.

Tools & Materials required:

  • heat sealing iron
  • scissors
  • permanent and non-permanent markers
  • ruler
  • small inflation valve
  • 1 m of heat sealable fabric, TPU on one side
  • a small amount of glue, such as AquaSeal (for installing the valve)

The CAD program I use to make my plans has very limited text and line-type capabilities, so complete written and video instructions for assembling the seat are posted here.
