matteo replied to the topic WRONG SIDE TPU 1-2L JOINT in the forum DIY Packrafts 7 years, 11 months ago
The 3 sides where I circle in black are on the wrong side of the tpu, so nothing will stick on them. The red circle is the only side where I can stick the patch into the tube piece. That’s because I seal the piece 1L on the wrong side from the beginning (including the internal reinforcement strip). The green line means there is no TPU on either…[Read more]

Hi Matteo, together we will find a way! Can you post some more pictures or draw a diagram to explain the problem? It is difficult to visualize and I’m not sure I understand what must be fixed. Thanks!

I would like advise on how my mistake. I manage to seal on the wrong side of the tpu the 1-2L piece on the floor. It ended up being with non sealable tpu on the outside, so I cut the 1L piece as close as I could and than seal another piece on the end to match the original size/shape. So it ends up at the start of the joint with the floor it’s on…[Read more]

I hope this isn’t a repost, I searched but didn’t find anything.
Does anyone know if it’s possible to install a Backband for the front paddler in a voyageur (facing forward)?
In the absence of a DIY option I would probably buy the Alpacka Backband.
The one issue I see is that backbands. Typically have two forward side attachments (no…[Read more]

I’m planning to build a 6′ (72″) voyageur to fit three (including a baby). Just ordered the parts last Friday. Will let you know how it turns out space-wise.

Hi Robin – with the lightweight fabric, you may be able to use a slightly lower temperature, and to avoid bubbles I like to use the edge of my iron and slide it outward, rather than using the large flat part. Then it’s important to press on the fabric with a rag or something as it cools so it can’t lift before the weld sets. You may still have an…[Read more]

Hi,
I am attempting to make a drybag packliner with the 40d fabric, both because I need one and because I want to get the hang of this before trying to make the raft. (and I am waiting on the release of the new UL kit!)
Anyway I got my iron and checked the temp with a IR thermometer I have. I adjusted the thermostat so that the tip of the iron…[Read more]
