Alternative Seam Strip Colors?

DIY Packraft kits include pre-scored black seam strips made from the same type of fabric used in the packraft’s tubes. Occasionally someone asks if they can choose a different seam color for their packraft kit. Unless I have a suitable scrap of fabric lying around, the answer is unfortunately no. Here’s why:

Because the seam strips are longer than the width of a fabric roll, cutting a single set of seam strips wastes a lot of fabric, and I make the black seam strips in large batches to reduce the waste. There’s very little demand for colored seam strips, so making a lot of them isn’t worthwhile.
