Hi. I have made packraft from extremtextil’s fabric. Sealing was no problem, more heat from the sealing iron is the answer. Did use 210 D tpu dobbel side for floor and singel side tpu 210 D for tubes.
You could use singel side 210D tpu for bonding strips, should work just fine.
But I do not see the point using tpu dobbel side fabric for tubes, n…[Read more]

Hi Matteo – welcome to the forum!
All of the DIY Packrafts are capable of carrying over 100 kg. I probably wouldn’t use an Ultralight packraft for bikerafting though, as the ultralight fabric is more fragile, but you could do so if you were more careful.
Each DIY Packraft kit comes will scrap fabric to make attachment points and grab loops, and…[Read more]

I’m new to this forum and I would like to make my own packraft to be able to carry my loaded touring bike on it and reach areas otherwise unreachable on two wheels. Did anyone of you here ever make it? My bike plus gear should weight around 25-30 kg + me it should be able to carry roughly 100kg. Another problem is how to carry the bike on top of…[Read more]

I have been using the Jingda Leather iron for a couple weeks now and I would not want to give it up. Thanks to Lyn for discovering it. With the relatively simple modification of filing the foot flatter it becomes an indispensible tool. I particularly like the uplifted tip that provides accurate work in tight corners, and allows one to approach the…[Read more]

Bruce replied to the topic An improved tie down in the forum DIY Packrafts 8 years, 9 months ago
The new 420D and 1000D two sided fabrics make fantastic tie downs including web plates, and D-ring points. I also used a 1.5 cm strip inside a fold on my inside tube to floor reinforcement strip, so I can punch holes in it and tie a separate floor to the raft.
Simplest are webbing plates. I cut circles or ovals from either 420D or 1000D fabric,…[Read more]

@keopgaard
hello,
i would try to work with extremtextil fabric.
i will test two mini irons. one with 20w and the other is matts standard iron.
with which temperature you weld the extremtextil fabric?i ask myself if it’s a good idea to use double coated 210d fabric from extremtextil with stripes over the seals.

Hi, sorry for the late delay.
I used my heat sealing iron, coverite iron on max temp, aprox 400-420 f-220 d.celsius. Any other heat sealing iron will problably NOT work. The Coverite is a 150 w iron, have tried with a modified 60 w iron and it did not put out the heat needed. I have a modified soldering iron 60 w with a iron tip that work superb…[Read more]

Hi Mike,
Most of the fabrics available are only coated on one side, except for the heavier fabrics in the DIY Packraft shop, and possibly some sold elsewhere. I used to have fabrics with PU coating on the other side from the TPU, but PU is not as good as TPU. You will find that most PU coatings are not airtight or waterproof and can rub off with…[Read more]

Packraft number two. Size large, bought plans from Matt. Fabric from extremtextil in Germany. Did not have any problems about bonding, but more heat is the answer. The fabric is not so good as Matt’s fabric.
