One nice thing about a packraft is that you can toss it in your luggage when you go travelling and then go paddling at your destination without having to rent a boat. That’s what I did this Christmas, when I […]

Yes, that’s the one. I’m in the process of bodging up a fix with some PVC waste pipe to slide over the whole length, and some silicon tubing to make a collar around the hot end. It will end up very strong and usable, but will still be a bodge and I really can’t recommend it.

Hi @Lynsg,
That’s too bad! Was it the eBay 58W iron you mentioned above? I had a similar problem with one of the soldering irons I tested.

I’ve just tested this iron after adding a set screw to hold the Clover shoe, and broke the handle in half. Didn’t push down at all hard either.
I do not recommend this iron.

Matt (Admin) replied to the topic Packraft Sizing? in the forum DIY Packrafts 8 years, 4 months ago
Hi @OlympicMtnBoy! The packrafts are designed with a fairly narrow cockpit to minimize weight and improve paddle clearance, so a pack will probably not fit between your legs. If you build a Large size, however, you will have an extra 20 cm (8″) of length and a day-pack would probably fit in front of your feet or behind your back.
An alternative…[Read more]

Hi
I am living in southern Sweden, in the city of Karlskrona, and would like to get in touch with diy packrafters in my part of the world. To hear what materials you have sourced and if they were any good. What kind of irons have you been using? I saw tomis clever post about the dimmer to regulate a cheap soldering iron.
Perhaps you have made or…[Read more] -
